USR Month

The University Social Responsibility Network (USRN) has identified the month of October as the “USR Month”. USRN member universities around the world will demonstrate and highlight their commitment to social responsibility by showcasing their social responsibility activities during this month.

Through the USR Month campaign, universities affiliated to the USRN will be able to learn from each other’s USR initiatives as well as to motivate other universities outside the USRN to strengthen their USR initiatives. Ultimately, it is hoped that there will be increased awareness of USR, propelling a USR movement in the global higher education sector.

2021 USR Month – University of Pretoria

In the 2021 USR Month, the University of Pretoria (UP) organised a photography competition that called upon students to submit an image that encapsulates a social responsibility project that they are involved in. Eight winners, whose submissions highlighted their commitment to community engagement were selected, and each won UP Shop vouchers ranging from R100 to R1500.

UP thanks all the students who entered the competition. They have shown UP’s positive impact on people’s lives and proved once again that UP’s students live THE UP WAY.

1st prize: Sandile Siyabonga Bhengu
Bhengu’s winning image was taken at Hatfield studios and shows students making sandwiches to distribute to those in need.
2nd prize: Thule Mlandu
