The Leadership Summer School, jointly organized by the Global Youth Leadership Institute of PolyU and the Peking University, was successfully run at Peking University in summer of 2016. About eighty students from Hong Kong, Beijing, Sichuan and Israel took part in the programme. The Summer School aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the impact of globalization within the context of China, as well as the contemporary models and realization of service leadership.
Four students from two University Social Responsibility Network (USR Network) universities, the University of Haifa and Sichuan University, joined the Summer School in 2016. Participated in the courses on “Service Leadership” and “Global China,” the students were inspired with the concepts of being a serving leader, and showed the other side of China.
Studing clinical medicine in Sichuan University, Xiaojun Lyu took part in the course on Global China. “The course led students to think from multiple perspectives, which was very inspirational. The field trips were well arranged for the topics and the course,” said Lyu. Students of Global China joined in three field trips to the Jingwangjiayuan Neighborhood Center, the Zhengyang Farm and Sanlitun, and learned about the relationship between economic and rural development as well as community building.
The Summer School also included a one-day local cultural study. Students visited the Great Wall and the Forbidden City for an understanding about the history and cultures of ancient China. The four students from the USRN universities have benefited from the two weeks’ visit in Beijing, and built relationship with students from Hong Kong and Beijing.
