USR Month

The University Social Responsibility Network (USRN) has identified the month of October as the “USR Month”. USRN member universities around the world will demonstrate and highlight their commitment to social responsibility by showcasing their social responsibility activities during this month.

Through the USR Month campaign, universities affiliated to the USRN will be able to learn from each other’s USR initiatives as well as to motivate other universities outside the USRN to strengthen their USR initiatives. Ultimately, it is hoped that there will be increased awareness of USR, propelling a USR movement in the global higher education sector.

2021 USR Month – The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Riding on the success of the PolyU Blood Donation Campaign held since 2018, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS), organised the Blood Donation Campaign from 5 – 7 October & 25 – 28 October. Over 550 students and staff members participated in the campaign, with 414 units of blood collected successfully. Among these successful blood donation cases, 72% of them were first-time donors.

In recognition of PolyU’s continued support in driving blood donation on campus and promoting a positive message to the public, Dr C K Lee, Chief Executive and Medical Director of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, presented the “Elite Partnership Award 2021” to Prof. Ben Young, Vice President (Students and International Affairs) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Newly launched in 2021, the award recognises some very enthusiastic partners in the commercial and community sectors that contribute to blood donation in Hong Kong.
