Established in 1937, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has inspired generations of young people who have applied their knowledge to serve the best interests of the Hong Kong society.  The University is proud to have won positive recognition for the substantial progress made on various fronts.

PolyU is now the largest government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong with over 32,000 students. It not only nurtures the much needed talents and professionals for the society, but also excels in research and innovation, and provides an expanding range of consultancy, professional training and services by turning innovative ideas into practical use, bringing benefits to mankind.

PolyU is the first local university to introduce Service-Learning as a compulsory subject when the new four-year curriculum was implemented in 2012. “Service-learning” connects professional education with societal needs, providing students with exposure to complex social issues and the opportunity to make use of their knowledge to improve the quality of life of the less fortunate.

The service culture is also shared by the academia and general staff of PolyU. A volunteer team formed by staff members and alumni extends PolyU’s reach to different parts of the community through providing a wide variety of services.

To further nurture a commitment to SR, PolyU has set up the University Social Responsibility Steering Committee to provide strategic directions on and enhance the coordination of SR endeavours in the university.

Sustainable campus is also a focus in PolyU’s SR efforts. Environmentally-conscious practices are widely adopted to build a green campus, including but not limited to resource conservation. Green procurement, for example, is the guiding principle in the purchase of goods and services.
